Some women may wonder why they practice and workout so much yet still don’t have the strength to perform difficult manoeuvres. UFC Gym takes a look at the importance of protein in a woman’s diet.
Protein is an essential nutrient for the body. Whether you exercise or not, you will need to provide your body with enough protein to ensure you have energy to go about your day. Women who play sport, especially those who practice martial arts, will need to consume more protein-rich foods.
THE ROLE OF PROTEIN IN THE BODY
Protein is made up of 20 different amino acids and, unlike fats and starches, the body cannot store its own protein. Protein is an indispensable compound in almost every living organism and plays an important role in the human body: to build, repair and maintain muscles.
When practicing martial arts, the force of some strong body movements create small tears in the muscles. Protein works to provide nutrients to mend those tears while nourishing the healthy muscle fibres at the same time.
CALCULATING THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF PROTEIN FOR YOU
While protein plays an important role in muscle development and shaping the body, if the amount of protein consumed is in excess of what the body needs then it can adversely affect your health. Weight gain and high levels of body fat, impaired liver function and high cholesterol are all side effects of too much protein in your diet.
The coaches at UFC Gym have shared an easy way to calculate the amount of protein needed by women. With this simple formula you can easily work out how much protein you need in a day to provide adequate nutrition for your body.
